It's just over a month since Kevin, Eddie, Colm and myself took over the reins at Malachians and, of course, there was always going to be a settling in period. When we started, Christmas was just around the corner and so with other distractions and work commitments, the numbers at training fell off, with the result that both the training schedules and match day preparations failed to reach a standard that we, the management team, would have wished for.
For me players' attitude towards training, as well as their discipline on the pitch, are the cornerstones to the team achieving success. Although most of the players have already adapted to our management style, it is clear that ,for some, it will take a little longer.
We have been working closely with the second team management, which allows me to monitor all players' form and capabilities, which I feel is essential , and it is great to see so many of the club squad competing for first team places . I hope to have a few key players back from injury soon , which will strengthen the squad, and we are working to bring in some new faces, who will enhance the team in certain areas.
The main aim for the start of the New Year is to improve performances, start achieving results and so move up the table. Hopefully we will have a good run in the Clarence Cup. I would like to thank the committee for their support and all their hard work behind the scenes. I would encourage the supporters to keep turning out in the large numbers we have seen recently and , hopefully, we can reward them with winning performances. Finally I would ask for renewed efforts and commitment from all the players and management teams at the club, so that we can have a successful 2008.
