MALACHIANS' 2009 WALK RAISES £1,827 FOR CHILDREN IN NEPAL

On Sunday 1st November 2009 Malachians' Committee members, players, and their families and friends turned out in really atrocious weather conditions to walk the Docks and raise an impressive £1,827 for the charity Sathi Nepali.

Sathi Nepali has been doing some great work in 2 villages in a remote mountainous region of Western Nepal for the past few years, helping local children get an education and improving their living conditions. Local Cave Hill Road man, Ian Brown, is the Charity's Chairperson and he and and his Nepalese wife, Gita, laid on a superb Nepalese meal for everyone in Pat's Bar afterwards.

The walk started at Pat's shortly after 1.00pm and the one and a half hour trek to Titanic Quarter and back in the rain and driving wind saw the twenty-odd walkers delighted to get back in one piece to the open fires, spicey Nepalese curry and hot-whiskey welcome in the bar. What followed was a really good afternoon's/evenings craic and music.

Speaking after the walk, Ian Brown, expressed his appreciation to Malachians FC and all those who did the walk or contributed to the magnificent total. at every penny would be spent on the front line in Nepal. He assured everyone that the work done by Sathi Nepali working closely with local villages was changing lives. Ian said " Our work is making a real difference to the lives of local people and particularly the children of the villages, and I am delighted with the amount raised by Malachians and their friends. "

The Malachians' Committee was delighted once again by the magnificent response from local people and the amount raised. Malachians Football Club relies on a lot of sponsorship every year from local businesses to keep the club afloat and we are all just grateful for the opportunity to do something in return to help such a deserving cause.

Malachians Football Club would like to say a really big "Thank You" to each and every one who contributed to the event and to all who did the walk.

Well done to all who braved the elements in support of Nepal
