First and foremost I would like to thank Gerry Adams and Harry Magee for all their help and support throughout the season. Gerry did a great job at training keeping the players fit and on their toes all year. “The Quiet Man”, as Harry is called by the players, was a great help to me, both on and off the pitch, and this was much appreciated.
I would like to thank all the players who worked so hard this season. We were top of the league from day one and we were only overtaken on the final day to lose out by a single point. In my opinion, despite finishing runners up, we were the best team and, as a lot of other managers also commented to me, I felt we played the best football , scoring eighty five goals in twenty two league matches, an average of nearly four goals a match. Nevertheless all credit to Newington for overtaking us at the finish and winning the title, but we will be ready for the challenge next season and I am already looking forward to that challenge. I would like to thank my skipper James Moore, who scored an incredible forty goals this season and always led by example. Sean Coleman had an outstanding season with a whole series of impressive displays and was rightly voted Player of the Year by not just me but also by his fellow players.
Once again we won the Walter Moore Cup for an incredible third year in a row, beating Nortel, Grove, Sport & Leisure, Rathfern and finally Newington along the way. This gave us a successful, winning end to the season and again thanks to all who were involved.
Finally I would like to thank Artie and Frankie, the first team management, and Maxi and Paul, the Shamrocks management, for their help and co-operation throughout the season. I thank the committee of Malachians for their ongoing support and last but not least I would like to thank Vinty McGovern who was there for us at vital parts of the season and for all his brilliant work on the website. Up the Mals !
